You may have heard about a certain little press event yesterday concerning something to do with, oh, I dunno, several famous billionaires and private space exploration corporations planning to launch spacecraft to go mine asteroids in space? Phil Plait has the juicy details; the whole thing is quite fascinating and far too advanced for a rube such as I to have anything worthwhile to write about.

Of course, I know what you’re all wondering: What does Fox News think of all this?

Yeah … because wealthy citizens and privately owned enterprises choosing to bankroll an economic venture with their own money – ie. the textbook example of industrious capitalism – is “socialism”.
