Nearly a fifth of Americans think Obama is a Muslim

Relatedly, nearly a fifth of Americans are confirmed gullible morons. (Or, at the very least, hardline Rightists.) I guess there’s no point to listening to the President openly and repeatedly declaring his Christian faith when you can just listen to any right-wing crank on the air instead:

The survey by the Pew Research Centre found that 18% now say that the US president is a Muslim, up from 11% in March 2009. Only about one-third of adults (34%) say Obama is a Christian, down sharply from 48% in 2009. Forty three percent say they do not know Obama's religion.

18% may seem like a fringe … but keep in mind: that’s still roughly 55 million Americans. That’s a lot of stupid in a country.

And the mystery of why Obama’s having such a hard time deepens.
