Pastor Tom hates gays. Okay, your turn to state the obvious

| »

Well, blow me down. Every time I think Pastor T.Estes of HardTruth has finally set the bar of ridiculous, bigoted stupidity so high that surely even he could not surpass it, he comes around and delivers another post so filled with condensed stupidity that it leaves intelligent people everywhere cringing. From claiming that teh gayz have launched an all-out war on the Bible, to his complete bastardization of biology (and science in general), and with his utter incomprehension of what he reads in between (leading us to question his literacy aptitudes), this is one kooky crank who just won’t let up the stoopid, ever, even for the space of a single post. Methinks he just can’t.

But now, T.Estes strikes back with what has to be his single stupidest and most bigoted post yet, which is nothing more than a pathetically disguised attack on gays and homosexuality. Seriously, it’s wretched even by my standards of tolerance for abject dumbassery and hatefulness. But that’s what makes tearing such shit apart such a satisfying undertaking, in the end.

Let’s take it from the top. On the issue of Obama’s promise to (eventually, perhaps) end Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell:

Consider this first, this is a fake issue. When one takes into account that most gays are extremely far left in their ideology, it makes it safe to say that most gays aren't interested in joining the military. The far left spends much of its time attacking our generals and our brave men and women who are fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan, and you expect me to believe that gays are willing to throw in with our much maligned soldiers? Not so much.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 99% of gays are ideologically opposed to the military.

That limb has just splintered from under Estes’ feet, and he’s just fallen into a sea of burning moronity with a heavy infusion of plain ol’ intolerance. It’s just too bad that he had to drag the rest of us down along with him. There’s such so much that’s completely, abjectly wrong with the excerpt above that, frankly, I don’t even think it’s worth it to address the various points. Nothing but false claims and wild guesses, hate-filled smears, and ridiculous stereotypes.

Speaking of ridiculous stereotypes: methinks Tom doth watch TV too much. (Which is odd, considering his heavily anti-Hollywood stance, but nevermind.)

And not only do they believe the military to be evil, wouldn't you also say the military doesn't fit into the carefully crafted stereotypes that GAYS have made up about themselves?

  • They tend to be extremely fashion conscious. (Don't deny it, you know it's true.) So how many gays do you know that would want to wear dark green in the spring, or wear their desert whites in the winter?
  • They tend to be lovers of fine cuisine. With that in mind, how excited would most gays be when they open their army ration kit and find out that stale crackers is what they will be eating, and that it will be washed down with a dirty canteen full of rain water?
  • They are more emotionally connected than most. Do you think they will like their Drill Sergeant screaming in their face while being forced to scrub a bathroom floor with a toothbrush?

So, there you have it: GAYS, according to Tom: too fashionable, snobby about food and overemotional to be in the military.

I don’t even know what to add to that, other than Tom A) has never known more than one gay person, if any at all, and B) seriously needs to lay off the teletubes.

But, of course, no smearing of gays who want to enter the military without persecution would be complete without wild and dumbass claims about how heterosexual soldiers would react. Because, of course, straight soldiers are all homophobic assholes, aren’t they.

But let me tell you another reason that Obama will NEVER give gays this issue; because the straight people in the military would have a fit. And would you blame them? Think about it for just a second. How many of you ladies out there would want to change clothes and shower it front of strange men? How many of you men would want to have to strip down in front of women who aren't your wife? Perverts aside, no one would. Which is why no man would want to shower in the same room with men who were openly gay, and the same would go for women. Simply put, it would be a HUGE distraction, and I'm guessing that people who are about to put their lives at risk need as few distractions as possible.

The only thing I could possibly say in response to such a massive dose of hate and stupidity is that, unlike Tom and other fundies, other men and women can actually see people naked without wanting to have sex right then and there, or even being remotely disturbed. Everyone either has a schlong or the pretty-looking alternative (cuz I can’t find a non-insulting nickname for a vulva), it’s not like it’s a big secret what people hide under their clothes, so frankly, anyone who has the slightest problem with other people’s nudity can A) get the hell over it already, and B) stay out of the army, if the sight of uncovered flesh disturbs them so much.

And, finally, the idea that gays would behave “strangely” in front of women or other men when disrobing is simply nonsensical. To fundies like Estes, gays are hormone-driven horny sex machines, but to anyone else (notably, gays themselves), their sexual impulses are no stronger than anyone else’s. The only difference, as trivial as it is, is that it is aimed at members of the same gender, rather than the opposite. A gay man or woman is no more or less likely to flirt with other members of the same genital group, than a man is likely to flirt with women (and vice-versa). Yes, unpleasantness can occur – but that is less about the gay condition, than the human condition.

For example: not that I would ever join the military (for plenty of other reasons), but if I had and found myself having to strip down amidst others, the only thing bothering me would be my inherent sense of modesty, and not the concern that others’ eyeballs could be checking me out. Only someone who’s either paranoid, or who is a perv themselves, would entertain such notions.

Obama has zero intention of giving gays what they want because he knows the public doesn't want him to.

Oh, I actually believe he does intend to repeal DADT. I do wonder why it’s taking him so bloody long to make up his mind and act already, but I do think he will get it done … eventually.

So, now that Estes has shown himself to be a sadly ignorant and virulent homophobe, which group shall suffer his stupid criticisms next? Women? Blacks? (Atheists?) Seriously, with a mind as twisted as his, who knows anymore.
