Pastor Tom Estes from HardTruth (or, as he's been not-too-kindly referred to these last few days, "T.Estes of HardTruth" … I'll now wait a few moments for the sniggering to end …) is one of those Christians who are eternally suffering from that bane of us all, the Christian Persecution Complex. Enter the very first paragraph of a recent post:
And so it begins. The Bible is officially under attack. Real attack. Not the kind of attacks that atheists or groups like the WMCC have been levying, you know, the kind that denigrate the Bible?
My God! What is it? Mass Bible-burnings (like with other harmless books or religious texts from other faiths)? The Bible being torn off the shelves of libraries nationwide? Another nail-piercing from PZ? Novelty Bible-themed underwear? What, man?
I'm talking about legal action being taken against God's Word.
... Oh. Sounds rather more tepid.
Enter Bradley Fowler, a homosexual from Michigan who is actually suing Zondervan, and Thomas Nelson Publishing for sixty million and ten million dollars. He's doing this because claims their modern translations have slandered him in a way that have caused him "demoralization, chaos, and bewilderment."
Uh … that sounds rather more like Fowler is suing the publishing houses for what he deems are "unfair translations", rather than the actual Bible itself, Tommy-boy.
There you have it, gents: through the lens of the Christian Persecution Complex, a gay man suing a couple of publishers for their translations of the Bible which the man believes are mean to homosexuality is warped into WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!!!
How come it's not amusing, though?
