Daily Blend

It gets mildly vexing when I find myself busting my self-imposed bedtimes because I can’t put a leash on my writing … yet also quite satisfying.

  • What’s that stench? Oh, it’s a resurgence of McCarthyism.

  • Post-Apartheid South Africa is renown for several things. Being the rape capital of the world is one of them, due heavily to the region’s intensely macho culture. Here’s a video report shining some light on the horrifying (and growing) phenomenon of “corrective rape”, where (allegedly-)lesbian women are targeted to try and basically “rape them straight”. • There’s a new report being trumpeted by Fox News and the WorldNutDaily (so you know how credible it must be already) that Noah’s Ark has been found. (For the umpteenth time.) PZ Myers is not impressed. At least the evangelists who parade this “new” “discovery” are finally using carbon dating to tentatively date the “remains” back some 4,800 years ago. And yet, said carbon dating method is still too unreliable to use on other ancient fossils …

  • Recognizing the Hubble space telescope’s 20th anniversary in style on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

  • While our children are caught up in gutter Rap, trashy Hip-Hop and generic Pop, Finnish kids indulge in the transcendent quality of … Heavy Metal dinosaur bands.

  • Who is this Canada you speak of, Prime Minister Harper? My Canada is pro-choice, particularly in its humanitarian efforts.

  • The enigmatic ‘Teardrop’ by Massive Attack – yes, the title song for House, MD.

  • Once more blurring the already fine line between ardent religiosity and mental illness: I’d feel sorry for this girl if I didn’t find that mess so … absurd. Psych help, anyone?
