Rachel Maddow (again) on Republican hypocrisy (again)

| »

I think I’m gonna have to start creating a Daily Rachel Maddow Ass-Kicking feature or something. Here’s yet another moment of Maddow journalistic brilliance in handing Republicans their asses for complete and utter two-faced hypocrisy, especially when it comes to them first taking one stance on policy, then switching sides as soon as it becomes more favorable to do so. As she clearly and rightfully states: these hypocrites aren’t worth paying attention to and ought to, at the very least, feel ashamed – even though we all know how “politician” and “shame” don’t really belong in the same sentence these days. (At least, not unless adding “—less”.)

The whole thing is excellent (though I didn’t watch the lackluster interview at the end), but this is the point (at 4:24) where Maddow truly makes her case:

‘We keep talking about political hypocrisy on this show for two reasons. First: someone ought to! Even if politicians are not capable of feeling shame and embarrassment for raw hypocrisy, we in the media, I think, owe it to the country to make clear that politicians ought to feel ashamed and embarrassed about it.

‘And second, it seems important to make clear that politicians who are willing to take two totally different positions on the same policy, those politicians should not be taken seriously when it comes to policy. If you’re for Pay-Go until the President is, and then you’re against it, then I don’t really care what you think about Pay-Go anymore, because it’s clear that you really don’t care, either. No-one should bother engaging with policy hypocrites on policy because, by their very hypocrisy, they prove that they do – not – care about policy.’

Bravo!
