Oh my God. It’s awesomeness squared

| »

Or perhaps more appropriately, cubed. What happens when you take a hard-hitting and reliably accurate journalist, a beloved and respected science broadcaster, and the latest freak-out over how, supposedly, “snow = Global Warming is FALSE!!!11!”? You get this brilliant interview where Rachel Maddow, in addition to making some great points of her own, asks Bill Nye – yes, “The Science Guy” and arguably the first person who ever really sparked my interest in science as a little kid – to simply and carefully explain how and why the latest snowstorm to hit the North-East, whilst unexpectedly large, is not any sort of evidence to contradict the incredibly well-established fact that is anthropogenic global warming/climate change.

I would say that his assertion that what conservative cranks are doing in “denying science” when they claim that the blizzard somehow disproves Global Warming is “treason” may be a bit heavy-handed, perhaps, but he’s got a very good point. You simply can’t bastardize science, and our understanding of good science, at such a level without deserving to be called an ignorant twit for it. Sadly, it seems Maddow (along with Jon Stewart) are the only journalists in the American media who actually dare to name names and call the kooks and cranks out for what they are.
