Hero Chris Scott with his son Jacob |
I’m too tired to come up with a clever contextual intro, so just read this and go “whoa!” like I did.
OLYMPIA, Wash. - A Thurston County 911 dispatcher helped save his own son’s life.
On February 4, Chris Scott’s wife Janna called 911 because their 6-month-old son Jacob was choking. He was unconscious and had stopped breathing.
The dispatcher who answered was her husband. The couple recognized each other's voices, but had not time for pleasantries.
Chris Scott calmly talked his wife through a procedure that cleared the boy’s airway.
Janna says there's no doubt her husband's demeanor saved her son's life.
His supervisor, Tammy Clark, was impressed by Scott’s calm manner during the call.
When she told him, "You saved that boy’s life," Scott responded by saying, "That was my son."
I’m not sure which is the most amazing, here: that the mother happened to catch her husband on duty when she called the emergency number, or that the he was able to stay calm and lucid enough to talk her through the procedure and save their kid’s life. If that’s not a role model dad, I dunno what is.
