Better to let them send their woos through texting, anyway

Facepalm
Because this is officially beyond words

Sadly, news this ridiculous is only somewhat surprising to me anymore.

A BRITISH school has banned its pupils from sending cards on Valentine's Day, saying the youngsters are not mature enough for romance.

Ashcombe Primary School in England- which teaches students aged four to 11 - has threatened to confiscate any cards found on the premises in Somerset, southwest England, said the Times.

"Some children and parents encourage a lot of talk about boyfriends and girlfriends,'' wrote head teacher Peter Turner in a monthly newsletter.

"We believe that such ideas should wait until children are mature enough emotionally and socially to understand the commitment involved in having or being a boyfriend and girlfriend,'' he said in the letter to parents.

Right. So, to protect against children developing romantic attachments too early, they prefer to ensure that kids won’t actually learn how to at all.

My father’s reaction when I showed him this: “There aren’t even any words to describe it.” I sense that he has yet to get acquainted with the Nanny State of England[1].

[1] Before anyone says so: yes, I’m perfectly aware that this is about how one school banned Valentine’s Day cards, not the government itself. I was making the point that this sort of ridiculously overprotective behavior is standard throughout England, whether from the government or not.
