Although recent reports indicated that the Darwin biopic wouldn’t be aired on American soil out of fear that it may be deemed “too controversial” for American audiences (the sissies), there appears to be a new ray of hope for anyone eager to see what is turning out to be a fine movie about the father of the Theory of Evolution. There is currently a “bidding war” for the film in the U.S.; what’s more, they’re now telling us there would very likely be a deal set by the end of the week.
There is one other bit of revelatory info that might cause a bit of a fuss, though (what, another one?) – the project is currently being bankrolled by Icon Productions – Mel Gibson’s studio. What do you want; the guy likes his controversial religious dramas.
Many are already questioning whether this is a bad thing or not. To them, I answer: “Who gives a shit?”. I don't give a damn who makes the film happen, as long as it does, plain and simple. (And besides, it’s a BBC production, last I heard, so Gibson won’t have any influence in the film anyway.)
Anyway; the whole point of whether the film gets an American release is moot, anyway, as within half-an-hour of the first screening, the Netz will be crawling with free downloads of the film, if you’re smart enough to know where to look. (Here’s a hint.)
