Teenagers sue for being forcibly ejected for refusing to partake in ‘God Bless America’ chant

| »

Ooh, here’s a juicy one that just flashed through my news ticker: three teenagers were kicked out of a New Jersey minor league ballpark simply because they chose to sat through the song ‘God Bless America’. Thankfully, they’re doing the right thing: they’re suing the bastards.

The boys say their constitutional rights were violated when they were asked to leave Newark's Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium in June by Bear's president co-owner Thomas Cetnar.

Cetnar confirms the boys were asked to leave but declined to elaborate.

The boys - Millburn High seniors Bryce Gadye (gah-DEE') and Nilkumar (NIHL-koo-mahr) Patel, both 17, and junior Shaan (shahn) Mohammad Khan, 16 - sued in federal court Friday seeking unspecified damages.

They say when they told Cetnar they had the right to remain seated, he cursed and had two security officers remove them from their seats behind home plate.

This strikes a very familiar ring with a previous story I commented on, where a man was actually injured as he was being forcibly ejected by security thugs just because he refused to take part in overzealous patriotic crap.

Just as the man in the other incident won his case, I have confidence that these three teens will win as well, even if they don’t have the added “bonus” of physical injury to use as evidence. This is something these overpatriotic zealots need to realize: that not everyone gives a shit about their stupid anthems, and that it’s well within people's rights to opt out. Kicking them out is flagrantly illegal. (As these thugs will certainly soon find out.)
