It's just another case of a cop needlessly shooting down a dog – unless you add the fact that the bullets fired ricocheted and struck two young kids.
Chicago Police fatally shot a Pit Bull and injured two minors while serving a search warrant early Saturday on the South Side.[...]
Deering District Tactical Officers were serving a search warrant through the rear entrance of a residence in the 4800 block of South Wolcott Avenue about 12:15 a.m. when they were confronted by a Pit Bull. An officer discharged his weapon, "fatally wounding the animal," the release said.
While police fired rounds to "destroy the animal," some bullets ricocheted and struck two children, said Mark Payne, a spokesman with the Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates all police involved shootings.
Each child suffered graze wounds, and were treated and released from an area hospital for their wounds.
The fact that the kids being shot was only an accident is irrelevent to the point at hand: these cops really need to A) learn to freakin' aim, B) learn not to shoot unless absolutely necessary (an attacking pitbull, when cops have Tasers and batons and pepper spray and who-knows-what-else, is not a good enough reason to open fire), and C) take responsibility for their own actions. (Says I under the assumption that this cop won't be reprimanded, nor will he apologize.)
