At Ray Comfort's blog, he now chatters about how God is not the merciless evil tyrant we atheists see him as. It's all the usual stuff, but I just felt like commenting on one particular issue he mentioned:
"Regardless of whether you believe Jesus or you believe Ray, people who had never heard the gospel are burning in Hell [and] that makes your God evil." RykYou are presuming that people go to Hell because they have never heard the gospel, and then, upon that erroneous presumption, say, "Therefore God is unjust." [...]
Like most atheists, you have a wrong understanding of the nature of God.
Problem is, he claims we have a wrong understanding of God's nature – and then quickly changes the subject as though afraid he wasn't able to contradict what we say and believe about God, spending the rest of the post talking about sin, how sin doesn't pay, etc. Why, Ray? Why avoid the discussion?
Here's how we atheists arrive at our conclusion (and I invite anyone learned about the Bible to correct me should I err, preferably with quoted passages contradicting what I write). You see, the Bible claims that God is all-knowing, all-powerful, etc., and most of all, all-loving and merciful. The Bible also explains how the ONLY to attain salvation and be accepted into Heaven upon one's death – the only alternative being Hell – is to accept Jesus as our savior, believe in him, follow the Commandments, repent for our sins, etc.
But that's just the thing here – not everyone accepts Jesus as their savior. And though many of them know about Christianity, Jesus' teachings, the Bible and all that and deliberately reject the Christian faith and path of salvation (either being of another religion, or irreligious altogether), it's obvious that a very large number of people will simply never have heard about Jesus or the Bible, and therefore, they simply CAN NOT know about the One True WayTM to reach Heaven.
Yet, the Bible explicitly states the ONLY way into Heaven, is by accepting Jesus. So, I ask: what about all those who simply have never heard about Jesus or Christian teachings? What about the millions who would presumably rot in Hell for all eternity, simply because they never even knew of the Christian path?
Try as you might, but there is simply no logical explanation out of this one. You can't say God would "forgive" or accept them, when the Bible very clearly states "either accept Jesus into your life for salvation, or rot in Hell". It's literally one road (Heaven) or the other. There's no way around it.
This, obviously, is the sort of logic Christians and fundies like Comfort and co. so desperately try to avoid – exactly like he did in his post by deliberately turning the subject back towards sins and how atheists are just lining up at the gates of Hell.
