A good congressman with a fantastic line

| »

Below is a video featuring Rep. Rick Larsen (D-WA) as he valiantly struggles to counter the inane and ridiculous attacks against the Health Care reform initiative. The first half or so of the video is an idiotic woman slowly spouting off the usual dishonest crap, and the rest is tedious repelling of said dishonest crap. But at the 3:15 mark, comes one line that I think truly makes his case:

"Now, folks will say that's not true, but I've got facts on my side and you've got Glenn Beck on your side."

Too which massive applause and cheering were raised. If you listen very hard, you might even hear my clapping from my room, hundreds of miles away in the vid.

I would like to draw your attention to one particular bit from the protester at the beginning, though:

I'd be willing for the government to buy insurance policies for the 8.2 million chronically uninsured. But the other 37.8 million [uninsured Americans] are not the responsibility of the American citizens, and I am unwilling to throw my present healthcare away for them.

These lines pretty much sum up the entire right-wing argument against Obama's health care reform plan. "Why would I pay a bit more to ensure fellow Americans have access to healthcare services and insurance? Why would I pay a bit more to save their lives?" Anyone who adheres to such a self-centered, "me first, screw them" mentality has a serious mental deficiency. (And I'm not even gonna describe how the woman's claim about "throw[ing] away [her] present healthcare" is ridiculous and is a complete lie.
