Fail Quote: Donohue defends Catholicism’s healthcare record

Bill Donohue (President, Catholic League)
Bill Donohue

The Catholic League’s Bill Donohue has a history of spouting incredible whoppers, but this one’s practically a self-parody:

The bishops have long championed universal healthcare as an American right. It’s just that their idea of caring for people doesn’t include killing some of them.

You can read the full thing for proper context, but really, that quote just speaks for itself. This, coming from an apologist for an organization that’s long let people suffer and perish rather than grant them crucial healthcare (and punishes those who do), whose policies are so ass-backwards that they’d force the desperate to resort to back-alley charlatans at their own peril, who is at least partially responsible for millions of needless deaths around the world due to entirely preventable diseases, and whose leaders and representatives inspire such acts of greatness as torturing and murdering children, and all in the name of preserving superstitious dogma about the “sanctity of life” … is really rather rich.
