While atheists have long been the most hated of all US minority groups (below even the dreaded Muslim), it seems someone else has finally sunk low enough in the general public’s esteem to kick us godless heathens up a notch in popularity: the Tea Partier. AMERICAblog reports:
In America, it takes a lot to be more disliked than a Muslim, or even, God forbid, an atheist. From the NYT:
[I]n data we have recently collected, the Tea Party ranks lower than any of the 23 other groups we asked about — lower than both Republicans and Democrats. It is even less popular than much maligned groups like “atheists” and “Muslims.” Interestingly, one group that approaches it in unpopularity is the Christian Right.
The report also contains such surprising factoids as the Tea Party being essentially a hardlined far-Right branch of the Republican Party that wishes to inject (its own) religion into politics. Gee, who knew?
Anyway, now that atheists aren’t the most hated people in America, can we get elected office and fair representation now?
… Anyone?
