* UPDATE: My use of “scare/sarcastic quotes” for ‘rape’ comes from my initial ignorance of the accusation that Assange had not quit intercourse with a woman who had asked him to stop. Having paid only intermittent attention to the case, I was under the impression that the charges against Assange were limited to a broken condom and not using one at all, which do not, in themselves, constitute rape. If this claim of continued sex despite the woman’s demand to stop is true, then that, itself, is certainly rape.
