Fail Quote: Ann Coulter wildly cheered for opposing free press

How’s this for revealing – and straight from the horse’s mouth, too:

AUDIENCE MEMBER: What is more important, though, to American values: being friends with Israel still, or knowing that there are jailed dissidents and journalists?

ANN COULTER: What do you mean, “knowing that there are jailed journalists”? I think there should be more jailed journalists.

[massive cheering and applause]

Now, I’m always willing to give people caught saying seemingly atrocious things in quick snippets like this the benefit of the doubt until we get the full context of those remarks. But it’s nonetheless troubling, albeit typical, that a morally bankrupt, attention-whoring neoconservative hack like Coulter would make such a disgusting (and thoroughly anti-American) pronouncement – and only worse that the brain-dead CPAC audience would cheer so orgasmically for it. It’s as though they really just don’t give a damn about exposing their lack of respect for the very ideals they so hypocritically claim to support.
