How police contact with protestors should go down

The reality is that despite all the stories we hear about incompetent and bullying cops, they still form a minority of the men and women on the police force. And as with any such minority, their loud and brash actions always drown out the majority of sensible, competent cops who then have their image sullied by the actions of the idiots and thugs in their midst. Here’s a refreshing video of one such good cop who actually knows the law regarding how police should approach protesters, not to mention that he just seems to be an all around good guy. This sort of thing ought to be mandatory viewing in police departments across the US (or even around the civilized world, really). [Video below the fold.]

Also notice how effective the trooper was in the discussion. He learned who they were and what they were protesting, where they were from and where they were going, all without any drawn weapons, threats or even so much as a tense look. Yet another example showing how staying cool and genial as opposed to a hot-headed jerk will always allow you to go much further in the direction where you want to go, regardless of the situation. Kudos to this trooper.
