Making the case for Mars, symphonically

It’s another installment in the wonderful “Symphony of Science” suite (see the ‘Poetry of Reality’ video here), this one talking about why manned travel to Mars ought to be humanity’s next big goal.

What a memorable and beautiful song, both musically and for its uplifting message. However, Phil Plait at Bad Astronomy has some disagreements and argues that while going to Mars certainly is a prominent goal that we ought to try to achieve before too long, we should focus on more immediate pursuits for the moment, such as returning to the Moon, which hasn’t seen human presence since the days of the Cold War.
