How we all must feel about him |
From Tom “thank-God-I-didn’t-see-him-dance-’cuz-I’m-too-young-to-have-to-stab-my-eyes-out” Delay, another Republican asshat who assumes to know something about poor people and how they live their lives:
DeLay subscribes to the notion that people only try to find jobs when their benefits run out.
"There is an argument to be made that these extensions, the unemployment benefits, keep people from going and finding jobs," he told CNN's Candy Crowley Sunday.
"In fact there are some studies that have been done that show people stay on unemployment compensation and they don't look for a job until two or three weeks before they know the benefits are going to run out," he argued.
"People are unemployed because they want to be? " asked Crowley.
"Well, it is the truth. And people in the real world know it," said DeLay.
No, it is not. That is how ignorant asshat Republicans like you see it. Only those who are severely disconnected from reality and who have absolutely no idea what it’s like to be poor and out of a job could possibly entertain such a disgusting notion. Especially since:
Ryan Grim noted in The Huffington Post that "unemployment benefits are generally so small that much of it is often used to pay for COBRA health insurance, even when subsidized. The size of the benefits does not generally cover the cost of living and it would be hard to find a single person who would prefer unemployment to having a job so that they could get subsidized COBRA."
Right. All those poor people, just lazily kicking back and relaxing, enjoying themselves as tides of income from unemployment benefits come rolling in … not.
Tom DeLay, for being yet another sanctimonious Republican who claims to know what poor unemployed people think and do when you obviously don’t know jack-shit, for labeling them as little more than lazy slobs who leech off government welfare rather than get a job, especially in this time of economic turmoil, and for being yet another arrogant condescending conservative prick, you’ve earned your very own FAIL.
