Another anti-gay conservative caught with his pants down (well, metaphorically)

These stories are as unsurprising as their are amusing. Another bigoted legislator was caught red-handed after he was arrested for drunk driving … after spending the evening at a gay bar. Republicans and cognitive dissonance really do go hand in hand, don’t they?

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Sources tell CBS13 a state senator from Southern California was arrested for allegedly driving drunk after leaving Faces, a gay nightclub in midtown Sacramento, early Wednesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol pulled over Senator Roy Ashburn at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday after an officer noticed a black Chevy Tahoe swerving at 13th and L Streets.

Ashburn, a father of four, is a Republican Senator representing parts of Kern, Tulare and San Bernardino Counties with a history of opposing gay rights

In fact, he’s voted Nay on every single gay rights measure since taking office in the State Senate, even though they all passed nonetheless. As referenced in the report, Project Vote Smart notes that these measures include recognizing out-of-state same-sex marriages, implementation of Harvey Milk Day (twice), expanding anti-discrimination laws that would expand protections to include, amongst others, sexual orientation, and – of course – the repeal of Proposition 8.

True Republican^TM and all that, isn’t he? Which, of course, is only compounded by the fact that he’s also apparently closeted. And now, he’s been busted for it. How … schadenfreudelicious.
