Next destination for the march for gay equality: New York?

| »

It’s been a long time coming, especially months following the rush of gay marriage legalizations in the north-eastern states, but the state of New York is finally on the verge of embracing basic civil rights for gay and lesbian people.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York Gov. David Paterson says he expects to sign a same-sex marriage bill into law in the coming weeks.

Paterson says he expects the state Senate to give the measure final legislative approval in the coming weeks and then he will sign it. That would make New York the seventh state to legalize same-sex marriage.

With more state down, so many, many more left to go … though, you can’t deny this progress is a welcome breeze after so many years of stagnation.
