My, California sure does love its institution of marriage, and will do whatever it has to to protect its sanctity. First, it made sure that those pesky gays couldn't further undermine it with the glorious Prop. 8, thereby shielding all heterosexual couples in ze land from the evil Gay Rays that emanate from the new unions of married homosexuals. But that's not enough: marriage is still under threat from the devil's affair that is divorce!
So, of course, that has to change. Enter John Marcotte, author of the 2010 California Protection of Marriage Act, which seeks to ban divorce outright from the California.
Here's a little Q&A session:
Rob Cockerham: John Marcotte. You've filed a petition with the Secretary of State, in an effort to get a voter's initative on the California 2010 ballot.John Marcotte: Yes. Filed the paperwork on September 1. It's the "2010 California Marriage Protection Act." I am trying to ban divorce in the state of California.
RC: Ok. So your act, if it became law, would make marriage undissolvable.
John: Exactly. The only exception would be if the marriage was "voidable" -- if you married an 8-year-old, you don't get to keep her. She goes back on the shelf. You can't marry the mentally incapacitated, etc.
RC: Ah, ok, so most normal marriages would be irreversable.
John: 99.99% of all marriages would be set in stone. It's a return to traditional values.
You really should read the rest. It's not insane and revolting at all.
Good to know all those wives who are stuck in loveless, miserable or abusive unions will be so happy at the prospect of the "Christian nation" returning to "traditional values".
