Exactly a month ago (though, as usual, it feels like it’s been quite longer than that) I commented on how Anna Falling, an ardent Creationist fundy, was running for mayor of the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was essentially devoting the large part of her gubernatorial promises to installing Creationist exhibits at the Tulsa Zoo (something the zoo had already previously adamantly refused, thankfully). In closing, I asked “what this pitiful mayoral candidate can do about it” …
Well, now we know: nothing at all:
Bartlett, the Keener Oil & Gas president and former city councilor, by far had the tougher primary battle in a field of 11 GOP candidates. He prevailed, however, with a clear majority of 54 percent. His closest competitor, Chris Medlock, had 32 percent.[…]
Anna Falling snared nearly 10 percent of the votes, with the rest of the Republican pack drawing anywhere from a little over 1 percent to a fraction of a percent.
That’s right: even Republicans don’t want Bible-thumping fundies in charge. By golly, there just may be some hope for them (and the rest of Oklahoma) yet.
